Background Removal

Automatically remove backgrounds from generated images to create transparent PNGs ready for use in any context.

How It Works

Asset Forge uses BiRefNet v2 (Bilateral Reference Network), a state-of-the-art background removal model. After an image is generated by FLUX 1.1 Pro, it's automatically passed through BiRefNet to create a version with a transparent background.

When enabled, both versions are saved — the original with its background and the transparent version — so you can use whichever suits your needs. When disabled, only the original is saved.

Configuration

Background removal is a per-project setting that can be toggled in Settings:

•Enabled (default) — Every generated image gets background removal. Adds 40 credits per image.
•Disabled — Skip background removal to save cost. Images keep their original background.

Both versions (original + transparent) are saved regardless of this setting when background removal is enabled. When disabled, only the original is saved.

Viewing Results

In the Review page, you can toggle between the original and transparent versions of each batch. Transparent images are shown on a checkered background pattern to make the transparency visible.

Cost

Background removal adds 40 credits per image. For example, FLUX Pro with background removal costs 80 credits per image (40 generation + 40 removal). Without background removal, you only pay the generation credits.
